Is bigger always better?

While reflecting back on 2017, it’s safe say that statement frill sleeve detailing, bell sleeves and balloon sleeves were the biggest trends to take over the winter and spring season. Now that we are back into sweater weather, (well, to be honest it’s still humid as heck over here) the trend is popping back up everywhere. The question of, “is bigger always better?” begins to replay in my mind a lot. Sometimes, it’s hard to figure out how to style exaggerated sleeves. In reality, it’s much more simpler (and flattering) than you might think. Today, I’m sharing how to style my Boohoo Edge To Edge Longline Ruffle Cardigan and I’m rounding up my favorite ruffle sleeve cardigans less than $50.

My favorite ways to style exaggerated sleeves are very simple.

The first styling tip for ruffle sleeve cardigans is to keep it light. A simple, satin cami will usually do the trick. Do you own one? You should! It’s a basic piece that you’ll want in your closet. Black is always a classic color but don’t be afraid to be a bit more bold with your color choice. Vibrant red is just as classic as ivory or black. I found mine at Target’s Who What Wear collection. This top cost less than $20 and has held up through the year! I’ve linked a similar one from Target for you here which just so happens to come in all of my favorite colors for a cami.

The second trick is pairing them with high-waisted jeans. Yes, we all wish we could pull off that free-spirited boho look by wearing over-sized sweaters and flow skirts and look ultra chic. I seriously envy people who can actually pull that off. I am not that person and if you aren’t either, skinny jeans are your best bet. Sometimes, ruffle sweaters can appear very bulky. Wearing high-waisted jeans allows you to still show off your figure underneath a heavy sweater.

The last styling trick, tuck in your shirt. If you just rolled your eyes or shook your head at this one, consider just a small tuck in the front. It’s simple and most often overlooked but will help take your look to the next level.

There are a ton of ruffle sleeve sweaters out there but today, I’ve rounded up my favorite ruffle cardigans under $50 for you.
